Out of My Comfort Zone

One of the things I’ve always loved most about being a writer is that I’m always researching and learning something new. (Yes, I do sometimes get sidetracked by the research but that’s another conversation.)

Pushing myself to try something new in my approach to my novels has led to my newest novel, “Layla’s Vistaville Summer.” Told in diary format, the book is different in tone and style from my Achdus Club novels. I absolutely love how it turned out!

The energy for writing that can sometimes wane when I get to complacent in my work has returned. It’s pushing me to try even more new types of storytelling.

Nonfiction? Historical? Maybe one of those will be on my to-write list.

Knowing that I can do more than I think with my writing will give me the confidence to push myself out of my comfort zone.

I bet the same thing may apply to you. If you find that you are writing on autopilot or feel your love for your writing waning, try something in another genre. Find a new way of framing your writing. Write hard news, try a feature. Specialize in fiction, use your storytelling skills to bring nonfiction to life. I bet you’ll be pleasantly surprised about what you discover about yourself.

As for me, I’m using my renewed writing energy to write book four in The Achdus Club series, “The Wedding Dance.”

As for Layla’s Vistaville Summer, you’ll be able to judge the story for yourself when the book comes out later this year.
